The All Commodities WPI index stood at 110.8 in August, up from 110.0 in July. The WPI Food Index recorded year-on-year inflation of 7.05 per cent in August, compared with 6.65 per cent in July. Within Primary Articles, food articles inflation stood at 5.67 per cent in August, up from 5.44 per cent in July.

WPI inflation for Manufactured Products was 8.37 per cent in August 2026. The government revised the final WPI index for June 2026 to 110.3 from the provisional estimate of 110.2. The provisional WPI estimate for August was compiled with a weighted response rate of 84.4 per cent, while the final estimate for June 2026 was compiled with a weighted response rate of 99.3 per cent.

On the retail inflation side, food inflation measured by the Consumer Food Price Index rose to 5.95 per cent in August from 5.52 per cent in July. Onion inflation more than doubled from 22.54 per cent in July to 48.27 per cent in August, while silver jewellery recorded inflation of 107.11 per cent in August. Transport inflation accelerated to 4.60 per cent in August from 4.43 per cent in the previous month, and personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services recorded inflation of 15.17 per cent in August.

Retail inflation in rural areas rose to 5.23 per cent from 4.84 per cent in July, well ahead of the 4.31 per cent recorded in urban areas. Telangana recorded headline inflation of 6.27 per cent in August. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation said the 37-basis-point sequential jump in retail inflation was the highest reading in the new CPI series.

MoSPI said the response rate for price collection during August was 100 per cent in both rural and urban markets. The Reserve Bank of India said the Monetary Policy Committee voted unanimously to keep the policy repo rate unchanged at 5.25 per cent, in a meeting chaired by Governor Sanjay Malhotra. The Reserve Bank of India projected CPI inflation for 2026-27 at 5.0 per cent and real GDP growth at 6.7 per cent.

The Reserve Bank of India said the minutes of the MPC meeting would be published on August 19, 2026. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation said CPI data for September 2026 would be released on 12th October 2026.
