Full storyline

India has engaged with both Russia and Ukraine in recent months, going beyond its years of advocacy for ending the conflict through dialogue, Hindustan Times and The Indian Express reported.

Ukrainian foreign minister Andrii Sybiha said Kyiv had received ceasefire proposals from four countries, including one from India that he described as the most comprehensive, Hindustan Times and The Indian Express reported. Reports differed on the significance of India's proposal: Sybiha said India had put forward a comprehensive and broad proposal to end the war for the first time, while Russian President Vladimir Putin said Prime Minister Narendra Modi constantly raises the question of ending the conflict and has very good ideas, according to Hindustan Times and The Indian Express.

On the historical backdrop to India's position, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said India and Russia have historically had very good relations, particularly since the 1950s, and that Russia stood by India when its security and territorial integrity were under threat, Hindustan Times and The Indian Express reported.
